The Forest Biome

420 years ago, plants began to grow on the land. Forest Biomes are known as the largest and most eco systems. There are a large amount of trees, plants, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates, insects, and micro organism which are so depending that they control the zone's climate. The forest biome covers about one third of the Earth's surface and there are three different types of forests found around the world: tropical forests, temperate forests and boreal forest.

Tropical Forest
The tropical rain forests recieves alot of rain the average rain fall in the tropical rain forests is 125 to 660 cm a year. The tropical rain forests belongs to the tropical wet climate group. The temperature of the tropical rain forests is always in 93 degrees and sometimes it goes over 93, and sometimes it drops to 64 degrees which means that it is still warm there. The average warmth in the tropical rain forests is between 77 and 88 percent. There are some seasons where there is less rain and in some areas there is a very dry season. Tropical rain forests cover 6 percent of the earths surface so they are parts around everywhere. Scientists say that most of the earths and plants live here because of the weather. The tropical rain forests produces 40 percent of the earths oxygen. The tropical rain forests has more trees than other areas in the world, scientists have counted 100 to 300 differrent kinds of trees. Seventy percent of plants in the tropical rain forests are trees.Wow

Temperate Forest
Temperate forest are found between the tropics and polar. They have 4 seasons. Temperate forests have a moderate climate. They are home to many plants and animals.Where most farms are temperate forest were their before. If you don’t live in the tropics, chances are a temperate forest once was growing where you are right now.

Boreal Forest
The Boreal forest is the world's largest land-based biome. Spreading over continents and covering many countries. The boreal covers most of inland Canada and Alaska, most of Sweden, Finland and inland Norway, much of Russia, and the northern parts of Kazakhstan, Mongolia and Japan. The boreal represents 29 percent of the world's forest cover. The boreal is COLD. The lowest recorded temperature is -65 f.The boreal forest stores enormous quantities of carbon, possibly more than the temperate and tropical forests combined. The largest area of wetlands in any ecosystem of the world is found in the Canadian boreal region.

1. Where in the world is the biome located [try amd find an image that you can copy and paste into your page]?

Tropical Forest
Tropical rainforests are loacted near the equator. Only Fifty seven percent of all tropical rainforests are found in Latin America. One third of the world's tropical rainforests are in Brazil. Other tropical rainforests are located in Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands and West Africa.

Temperate Forest
Temperature Forest are found along some coasts in temperate zones. The largest temperature rainforest are found on the Pacific coast of North America. They stretch from Oregon to Alaska for 1,200 miles. Smaller temperate rainforests can be found on the south east coast of Chile in South America. There are a few other places with temperate rainforests, including small areas in the United Kingdom, Norway, Japan, New Zealand, and Southern Australia.

Boreal Forest
Boreal forest are recognized as the swampy nature of much of this forest in the summer, lies to the south of the tundra and to the north of deciduous forests and grasslands.Boreal forest are found across North America and Eurasia

2.What is the climate like (what is the temperature and the weather)?

TROPICAL FORESTS
The climate in the tropical rain forests is humid most of the year because of its rainfall. The tropical rain forests has alot of rain because it is very hot and wet during the year. Since this climate is found near the equator this means that there is more light hitting it.

Temperature forest
The average temperature is above 0 C because of the nearby oceans. But the warmer parts of the temperate rainforests have the average temperatures that are around 20. It is a very lush and wet place. In the temperate rainforests it rains up to 100 inches per year. Then more moisture comes from the fog that hovers above the trees.Unlike tropical rainforests, which are warm and moist, temperate rainforests are cool, but also have moderate temperatures. The temperate rainforest had mild, wet winters and cool, foggy, or very cloudy summers. Winter temperatures rarely drop below freezing, but Summers go above 80 degress. From the hot humid summers plants get water from the humidity of the summer's and grow from that.

Boreal forest [taiga]
Climate in the taiga is cold, with average temperatures from about +5 to -5 .The winters are cold and long; summers are relatively short and cool. With snowmelt and low temperatures, there is little evaporation in the summer, so the ground is usually very moist during the growing season. Add to the availability of water the fact that the short summer has extremely long day length at the northerly latitudes and you have a situation for explosive plant growth in the summer. Still the growing season is short, usually less than 3 months.Wow!

5. How is this biome threatened by humans?

Tropical forest
This biome is threatened by humans because more than one half of tropical forest have already been destroyed because they want to cut down the tree's for paper. Human population growth, ok so i admit their are alot of humans on earth to much actually. Many of the fastest-growing human populations are located in the tropics, and as they clear land for farming there is a direct impact on the rainforest.Unfortunately, once cleared, rainforest soils quickly lose their nutrients and then new areas have to be cut.Logging is a threat; many of the tropical trees are prized for their lumber (and some are just ground up to make toilet paper).

Temperate forest
This temperate is threatened by humans because only scattered parts of original temperate forest remain.Forest firesand felling of trees. One of the problems with the tropics is the prevalence of parasitic diseases found there, many transmitted by mosquitoes or other insects. So, the biggest threat to temperate forests is once again development and agriculture.
Boreal forest [taiga]
These Boreal forest are threatened because current extensive logging in boreal forest may soon cause their dissapearance. The logging industry continues to cut down over 290,000 acres of forest in Quebec, 185,000 acres in Ontario and 67,000 acres of forest in Alberta every year.Approximately 4,400 mining claims have been staked across the northern half of Ontario's Boreal Forest.

Comman reasons
-Air pollutants from fuels we burn are destroying forests, killing our wildlife and poisoning the soil.
-Logging
-.Millions of acres of forests have suffered from the effects of acid rain

6. Give an example of a specific ecosystem that would be classified as this biome (i.e. Lake Ontario is specific ecosystem that is an example of a freshwater biome)

Examples of a specific ecosystem
-Swamps
-Marshes
-Northern coniferous forest (taiga)
-Grand Haven michigan ( lake )
-Green Bay, Wisconsin, ( lake )
-leland, michigan
-Sandusky, Ohio ( place and lake )
-Rangeley, maine ( lake )
-Truckee,
-California ( place )

facts about the forest
-An area of a rainforest the size of a football field is being destroyed each second.
-The trees of a tropical rainforest are so densely packed that rain falling on the canopy can take as long as 10 minutes to reach the ground.
-80 percent of the flowers in the Australian rainforests are not found anywhere else in the world.
-1 out of 4 ingredients in our medicine is from rainforest plants.
-About 2,000 trees per minute are cut down in the rainforests.
